Conventional/DE Mortgage Underwriter
Ark Mortgage, a leading home loan lender in New York and New Jersey is looking for a DE Mortgage Underwriter with 2+ years of Conventional and FHA experience. Salary is commensurate with experience. This is an in-house position located in Spring Valley, NY.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
o Underwrite conventional and FHA & VA loan applications, ensuring adherence to company and investor guidelines.
o Evaluate and verify applications – determining whether the borrower will be able to repay the loan.
o Review and audit of loan files for completeness and accuracy, analyzing credit documents, including, but not limited to: mortgage applications, credit reports, income documents, title reports, appraisals and all applicable compliance documents.
o Review all conditions of loan approval and ensure all conditions are satisfied prior to submitting the loan to the closing.
o Prior to declining any loan, review the decision with supervisor in an attempt to find alternative solutions.
o Communicate the results of loan underwriting decision to the originating personnel
o Coach/counsel originators and/or mortgage loan personnel in the interpretation and application of underwriting guidelines and provide guidance and recommendations.
o Assist when required to satisfy any post-closing issues.

Requirements:
o Minimum of 2 + years of experience in an underwriting role and thorough knowledge of the mortgage industry
o Strong knowledge of FHA, VA guidelines
o Encompass experience preferred
o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
o Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines within an acceptable time frame
o Strong written and oral communication skills

I want someone to sit with me and learn all our entities and how the intercompany accounts and bank covenants work and how we track them every month.
I want someone who will understand the budgets and forecasts I need to prepare and why I ask them for certain items.
I want someone who loves excel and learning new formulas to make their life easier.
I want someone who likes to make sure all their workpapers are in the same font and font size and doesn’t use a million colors to highlight their workpapers.
I want someone who wants to know why they have to make a certain entry and why we’re calculating the number that way and how it affects our financials.

I prefer someone who has worked 2 years at a midsized firm having exposure to retail clients…. Someone who worked in public accounting audit… and has seen some control testing.
