Founded in 1892 by immigrants on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, HFLS offers a wide range on interest-free loans to lower-income New Yorkers of all backgrounds.
The Role
The Hebrew Free Loan Society is seeking someone to review and process applications for its interest-free Security Infrastructure Loan program. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with a strong financial background, experience with nonprofit financial statements, and the ability to analyze and clearly summarize financial information, to evaluate financial performance, and to analyze past results, perform variance analysis, identify trends, and make loan recommendations.
Security Infrastructure Loans provide Jewish institutions in the greater NYC area and parts of NJ with up to $150,000 to pay up-front costs for security infrastructure upgrades.
HFLS makes approximately 30 Security Infrastructure loans per year. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing these loans from inquiry to repayment. The employee’s work will be coordinated by HFLS’s Director of Finance and Administration.
Responsibilities:
· Field inquiries by phone and e-mail from applicant institutions: explain loan process and requirements, and respond to questions
· Track and organize all loan documents and files
· Process and verify accuracy of submitted information
· Review the institution’s financials, and follow up with applicants as required
· Prepare loan approval or denial recommendation report with analysis and submit to the Director of Finance & Administration
· Vet guarantors and obtain consent, if applicable
· File and remove UCC liens on borrowing institutions as applicable
· Process loan closing and notify HFLS that loan is ready to be disbursed
· Send repayment reminders, communicate with borrowers regarding repayment schedules as needed
· Submit weekly and monthly projections for loan disbursements and repayments
· Record loans as closed when HFLS receives full repayment; report delinquencies to HFLS
Experience:
· At least five years of relevant experience in lending, financial analysis, or other relevant business areas,
· Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in finance, accounting, or a relevant field
Skills & Qualifications:
· Ability to discern financial situation of nonprofit organizations from review of relevant financial statements
· Organized and deadline-focused, with significant attention to detail
· Responsive and personable communicator in person and in writing
