The Director of Math Special Projects will report to the Managing Director of Academics and work to design and implement high priority math initiatives across KIPP NYC. High priority math initiatives will be determined in collaboration with the Managing Director of Academics, Managing Director of Schools, and the Directors of Math. The Director of Math Special Projects will also be expected to observe classrooms and provide feedback to teachers and leaders on implementation of high priority math initiatives across KIPP NYC.                                               Duties and responsibilities: Vision Setting

  • In collaboration with regional academic leaders and school-based leaders, continually refine KIPP NYC’s math vision and program.
  • Define high priority math initiatives at KIPP NYC based on student and teacher practice data to ensure that math instruction aspires to the vision of excellent math instruction across KIPP NYC.
  • Invest leaders, teachers, students, and families in KIPP NYC’s math curriculum and create ambitious implementation plans that ensure students receive the math instruction they deserve.

 Assessment Design and Data Systems

  • Develop and design, in collaboration with the ES Director of Math and MS Director of Math, a cohesive summative and formative assessment strategy that accurately assesses key knowledge and skills across a K-8 math progression.
  • Collaborate with the Data and Assessment Team to create and manage a system for sharing assessment data results and analyses to the greater KIPP NYC teacher and leader community
  • Design and turnkey any major data and assessment strategy to teachers and leaders through professional development.

 Curriculum Design and Management

  • Draw on content knowledge and understanding of effective math instructional practices to design and revise curriculum documents and continually evaluate curriculum implementation
  • Based on high priority curricular design needs, design and manage major curriculum changes that will improve quality of instruction and user experience of the KIPP NYC math curriculum.

School Support in Implementation

  • Observe instructional practices in schools with a specific lens towards high priority and/or new math initiatives to evaluate changes and determine next steps for teacher and leader support.
  • Support school-based leaders in continually evaluating the effectiveness of the math program overall based on our existing data systems.

 Professional Development

  • In collaboration with regional academic leaders, provide targeted coaching and professional development experiences to principals and deans to support content knowledge development and curriculum implementation and innovation
  • In collaboration with regional academic leaders, develop and facilitate regional professional development for teachers and leaders to ensure full implementation of curriculum and instructional initiatives in KIPP NYC’s math program

 Qualifications:
